About Capital Markets

The capital market is a cornerstone of the economic system that serves consumers and corporations by providing a means of savings, protection and financing. A healthy and competitive capital market helps promote economic growth and is also an important part of government policy because Chile’s pension savings depend on it.

In recent decades Chile has carried out a continual process of legislative and administrative reforms that have allowed its capital market to develop: by acquiring increasing liquidity and depth and by gaining experience in managing significant financial resources. These reforms have left Chile in a privileged position to confront the challenges of increasingly complex and dynamic global markets.

Many challenges remain, however. Some of the main goals now are: greater liquidity, higher safety standards for transactions, more transparency and greater financial integration with global markets. To accomplish this, the government has established a Capital Market Advisory Council to represent the opinion of the private sector and to help ensure the success of its ambitious reform plans.
